West Virginia Merchant Plant Issues Request for Statement of Interest for Power from New Waste Coal-Fired Project
Western Greenbrier Co-Generation, LLC (WGC) has announced plans to build a 90-megawatt waste coal-fired plant in Rainelle, WV and has issued a formal Request for Statements of Interest to identify potential parties interested in purchasing the plant’s output. WGC is a municipal entity empowered to design, construct and operate the generating facility. The project was selected by the US Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the Clean Coal Power Initiative and has received a $107.5 Million financial assistance award from DOE to support approximately 50% of the plant’s capital costs. The Plant is currently in the conceptual design phase. Plant start-up is expected in early 2008 with full commercial operation beginning in 2009. - 2004-10-31
