Film documents cross-country flight of veteran UH-1 "Huey" helicopter to capture veterans' untold stories.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 28, 2004 -- Austin-based Arrowhead Film & Videos independent feature documentary In the Shadow of the Blade took top honors at the 37th Worldfest-Houston International Festival, receiving both the Best of Show Remi and the Gold Jury Remi Award for Documentary. Best of Show is the festivals highest award for more than 4,500 entries and 600 qualifying film and television productions from 37 countries.

"Its an honor for me to receive the Remi WorldFest – Houston International Film Festival Award Best of Show, but more importantly, its an honor to Vietnam veterans and families whose stories are told in this film, especially the more than 58,000 Americans who didnt come home," said In the Shadow of the Blade director Patrick Fries.

In the Shadow of The Blade follows the 2002 flight of a battle-scarred Huey helicopter—the icon of the war—on a 10,000-mile journey across America to reunite it with those who once relied on it for survival. The film captures moving reunions, heart-wrenching stories, and the welcome home Vietnam veterans never received. This film is the most important thing to happen to Vietnam veterans since the dedication of The Wall," said Gary Roush, a Vietnam veteran and the films historian.

The only truly Indie film festival in North America, WorldFest offers 12 major areas of competition and awards, including Documentary, Film & Video production, TV & Cable production, Experimental, Short Subjects, TV Commercials, Radio & Print, Music Video, New Media, Feature Films and Student Films. In prior years, Worldfest has given first honors to Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ang Lee, The Coen Brothers and Ridley Scott, among others.

This film represents the best spirit of independent film by both telling an important story and by making a healing difference in peoples lives," said WorldFest Artistic Director Kathleen Haney. This is a film everyone should see."
