Mobile Metrics announced the immediate availability of the world’s first commercial test system for WiMAX ASN Gateways and CSNs, the Torrent 7100 WTS (WiMAX Test System). The Torrent 7100 features traffic and conformance testing capability for the ASN (Access Service Network) Gateway and the CSN (Connectivity Service Network). The new system is expected to help accelerate development of central nodes in the WiMAX network and thus help accelerate WIMAX rollouts.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 19, 2006 -- Mobile Metrics announced the immediate availability of the world’s first commercial test system for WiMAX ASN Gateways and CSNs, the Torrent 7100 WTS (WiMAX Test System).    The Torrent 7100 features traffic and conformance testing capability for the ASN (Access Service Network) Gateway and the CSN (Connectivity Service Network). The new system is expected to help accelerate development of central nodes in the WiMAX network and thus help accelerate WIMAX rollouts.

“We’re very pleased to make this announcement today,” said Asa Atallah, CEO of Mobile Metrics, Inc. “It’s not that often that you get the chance to be first in the marketplace with a new product, and we feel fortunate to have been able to do that with the 7100.”

The Torrent 7100 is the 2nd product in the Torrent lineup, and builds on the foundation laid by the original Torrent 5100 GGSN Test System which was released in 2005 as the first Third Generation test system for wireless data. Third Generation test systems can be distinguished from Second Generation systems by their precise mobile simulation, programmable flexibility, performance, and sensible, easy-to-use control.

“The Torrent 7100 inherits the rich features and stability of the Torrent 5100,” said Cecil Taylor, Vice-President of Sales and Product Management. Besides sharing the same architecture with the Torrent 5100, Taylor said the Torrent 7100 also shares the same application and protocol support, similar “Challenge” traffic testcases, virus and error injection capabilities, and a unique feature called the PC-based mobile station. Users can connect a normal PC in the same subnet with the Torrent 7100 and run applications such as browsers and e-mail right through the test network.

“Torrent 7100 demonstrations have been going very well,” said Taylor, who indicated that the system is in trials at three lead companies. “I don’t think demo attendees expected the system to be this sophisticated and complete so soon after the release of the WiMAX specifications.”

Today’s Torrent 7100 WTS 1.0 release is the first of three planned point releases to bring the initial product to market. The 1.0 release provides traffic and basic conformance testing for non-mobility settings involving Client Mobile IP (CMIPv4) mobiles as described in the 1.0 version of the WiMAX Forum NWG Specifications. October’s 1.1 release adds comprehensive conformance testing for scenarios not involving mobility or Proxy Mobile IP (PMIP). November’s 1.2 release finalizes the initial suite with PMIP mobile support, and traffic and comprehensive conformance testing of PMIP and mobility scenarios.

The Torrent 7100 consists of a series of nodes which together form a complete WiMAX Test System for ASN gateways and CSNs. The MTS (Mobile Traffic Server) is the workhorse, providing simulation of WiMAX Mobile Stations as well as Base Stations in ASN profiles A and C. The MTS pushes traffic through the network by simulating the actions of hundreds of thousands of mobiles and hundreds of base stations. It also performs the actions of mobiles and base stations during conformance tests. The CSN-7100 simulates CSN behavior (e.g. Home Agent / Radius) and may be used for testing ASN gateways, but any other CSN may be used as well. For completeness, the ASN-7100 ASN gateway simulator is also included to facilitate testing of CSN nodes. Finally, the NTS (Network Traffic Simulator) offers a lab-friendly internet application simulator, while the CS-5100 gives provides OA&M control of the Torrent system.

The Torrent 7100 realistically simulates a wide variety of protocols such as HTTP, WAP, MMS, PTT, MIP, SIP, RTCP, RTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, TCP, UDP, ICMP, DNS, EAP, and RADIUS. The Challenge series of traffic test cases combines these applications with mobility aspects to perform subscriber capacity, bandwidth limit, soak, rate-based and parallel activity traffic testing.

Test results are accurately characterized with high-resolution histograms and over 450 hierarchically organized statistics. Torrent includes sophisticated remote debugging capability and other diagnostics to make sure Mobile Metrics’ personnel can respond quickly to any issues or questions regarding the product, the system under test, or the network environment.
