We are excited to work with the Archdiocese to prepare and certify quality teachers for Washington area Catholic schools
To launch this new initiative, ABCTE attended the annual Catholic Schools Job Fair on Saturday, March 15 to discuss with teachers and principals how the program works. Hundreds of new teachers attended the fair and spoke with ABCTE representatives about using the Passport to Teaching program.

“We are excited to work with the Archdiocese to prepare and certify quality teachers for Washington area Catholic schools,” said David Saba, ABCTE President. “We offer a program that is perfect for busy career changers and new teachers who need to earn their certification.

The Archdiocese of Washington is the first organization in the area to accept the Passport to Teaching program as an option to certification. The program is approved in Catholic schools in Washington, DC and five Maryland counties: Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's. This certification is available for new and prospective diocesan teachers.

To teach in schools in the Archdiocese of Washington, teachers must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. ABCTE will offer the Passport to Teaching certification in English, Math, General Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, U.S. History, World History, and Special Education. Candidates enrolled in the Passport to Teaching program must complete certification requirements within one year of enrollment.

The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence is a non-profit organization dedicated to recruiting, certifying and supporting excellent teachers essential for student success. ABCTE offers the Passport to Teaching program –an innovative alternative route to teacher certification for highly knowledgeable individuals who want to change careers and become teachers.
