Marines and Sailors Can Now Receive College Credit for their Extensive Training

Charles Town, W.Va. (Vocus) March 26, 2008 – Marines and sailors in the Marine Corps Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), at the Naval Support Facility in Indian Head, Md., can now receive college credit at American Military University (AMU), for their extensive training in emergency and disaster response. AMU is a member institution of American Public University System (APUS).

CBIRF, established in 1996, provides leadership and support in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive terrorist incident and assists local, state and federal organizations and agencies in maintaining continuity of government and infrastructure.

Wallace E. Boston, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of APUS, and Lt. Col. The course teaches students emergency life-saving skills, decontamination techniques, and hazardous material awareness and operations.

The agreement stipulates that CBIRF students completing the Basic Operations Course after December 1, 2007, can receive up to 15 transfer credit hours toward one of five associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs offered through AMU. The eligible degree programs include:

  • BA – Emergency and Disaster Management
  • BA – Homeland Security
