Spring Break Travel: Carolina Beach And Kure Beach, N.C. Are Two Warm Coastal Destinations

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

Winter storms are still pounding in the Midwest and Northeast, but in two North Carolina coastal towns, it's time for spring break.

Carolina Beach, NC (PRWEB) March 23, 2008 -- Both Carolina Beach and Kure Beach are located on Pleasure Island, just east of Wilmington, N.C. Easily accessible by car from most major cities in the Midwest and Northeast, the two towns are best known as spots for summer family beach vacations.

In spring, however, the warm sun invites visitors to lay out on the beach and work on their tans. And, winter's chill has left the ocean thanks to the nearby Gulf Stream.

Many visitors view spring as the perfect time to get in touch with the natural wonders of the Carolina coastline. The diversity of plant and animal life around the area is astounding. Coastal habitats range from salt marshes to dune-covered beaches to maritime forests.

There are miles of hiking and bike trails in Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. Many meander along unspoiled creeks and colorful salt marshes, making bird watching a popular pastime. Egrets and herons fish by the shores of lakes and rivers, while ospreys soar overhead in search of prey.

Some visitors hire tour guides to lead a procession of kayaks along the area's many waterways. Some take the opportunity to enjoy the natural splendor of the Gulf Stream from the deck of a fishing charter. Still others head for one of several campgrounds on the island where they can set up camp along the beach or pitch a tent within a maritime forest.

For those who love to fish, there's no better place to spend a spring vacation.

Carolina Beach offers surf fishing, bottom fishing, shell fishing and deep sea fishing, thanks to its location at the convergence of the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The Carolina Beach Fishing Pier is a great place to drop a line; it's open to the public and has a tackle shop, grill and arcade.

At nearby Kure Beach, the fishing is just as good. In fact, the Kure Beach pier enjoys an international reputation among fishermen as one of the best places to pier fish for King mackerel, Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, flounder and blues.

Accommodations are so convenient that you can enjoy the pleasures of both towns when you visit. Choose from quaint family-owned beachfront motels, wonderful bed & breakfast establishments, or a towering oceanfront hotel.

Also, be sure to check out the restaurants that serve seafood fresh from the boat, or sample gourmet treats at one of several specialty shops. There are also many impressive historic sites to visit, as well as the North Carolina Aquarium.
