LA's design stars will come out to party in a penthouse in the sky at the most celebrated design event of the year, L.A. Defines Design / Design Defines L.A.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 24, 2008 -- AIGA/LA, the professional association for design, is hosting the most celebrated design event of the year, L.A. Defines Design / Design Defines L.A., on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 7:30pm to 11:30pm at the Elevate Lounge in downtown Los Angeles.
The celebration will feature a DJ and dancing in Elevate's sleek, ambient atmosphere with amazing views of downtown LA. Guests will be treated to savory Japanese fusion food from Takami Sushi and themed cocktails at the bar. There will be an installation of work by the Fellows, courtesy of Brand New School.
Also on view will be LA designer kicks from the Sole Search Design Contest. For Sole Search, AIGA/LA invited designers and artists (and shoe lovers, too) to share their sole vision and customize a TOMS shoe with a unique design. The winning design will inspire one of the next TOMS Shoes Limited Edition. Entries support the TOMS mission and benefit the AIGA/LA Scholarship Fund. TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes purchased.
"Through culture, entertainment, products and experiences, Los Angeles designers have influenced how people see and dream all over the world," noted Agustin Garza, President of AIGA/LA. "And it is Los Angeles' history, cultural richness and complex, interwoven landscapes that have shaped the visions of the designers who live and work here."
The event will honor the recipients of the AIGA Fellow Award, given to designers who have made a significant contribution to the L.A. design community. "Literally great design is all around us, all the time: Randy's Donuts, LA Dodgers, the Chemosphere House, Charles and Ray Eames, the Pan Pacific Auditorium, Disney Hall," stated Michael Hodgson.
Hodgson, along with Archie Boston and Petrula Vrontikis will be presented with the 2007 Fellow Award in a special ceremony. The event will also commend AIGA Los Angeles Fellows Sean Adams, Noreen Morioka, Doyald Young, Kim Baer, Buddy Berke, Keith Bright, John Clark, Nan Faessler, April Greiman, David Goodman, Toni Hollander-Morse, Harold I. Huttas, InJu Sturgeon and Deborah Sussman.
The Fellow Award is a national AIGA initiative founded in 1999. The program is a means of recognizing mature professionals who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within their local or regional community as well as in their local AIGA chapter.
AIGA members attend for free. Non-member pre-registered ticket prices are $35 ($25 for students). Tickets include food and drinks. There will be a $15 additional fee for tickets purchased at the door. Guests who want to become a member may join at the event and attend for free.
