Metso will embed Birdstep's latest release of RDM Server embedded database to provide true transactional support and high-availability for IMAS users bringing fault-tolerance to their IMAS - Integrated Mill-Wide Analysis System.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 7, 2008 - Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD), which offers state of the art embedded database technologies, today announced that Metso Automation USA, Inc. has selected Birdstep's RDM Server v8.0 to bring fault-tolerance to their IMAS - Integrated Mill-Wide Analysis System, including modules Advanced Quality Control Solution for Thermo-Mechanical Pulping (AQC Solution for TMP) and Sensor Reconsiliation.

"Our pulp and paper mill customers use our solutions to make sure production targets are met at the highest levels of quality with the lowest variability and production costs, says Daniel Cloutier, Metso Business Manager TMP and RCF Solutions, "We needed complete transactional support from our data management solution without sacrificing performance and without having to license a technologies that would raise our production costs. Birdstep's RDM Server product met these objectives".

Metso IMAS Sensor Reconsiliation component will expand beyond servicing pulp and paper mills to include energy companies. As we expand our market we must maintain the highest level of processing speed critical to maintain real-time access
Metso Project Manager for TMP and RCF Solutions, Devin Cole explains, "Metso IMAS Sensor Reconsiliation component will expand beyond servicing pulp and paper mills to include energy companies. As we expand our market we must maintain the highest level of processing speed critical to maintain real-time access". Devin continues, "We must also provide standard interfaces critical for SQL queries and web reporting. Birdstep's RDM Server database flexibility allows us to combine the use of a low-level native API for speed along with an industry standard SQL interface to meet our ease-of-use reporting expectations from our customers."

"As we consulted with Metso, we saw a major emphasis being put on eliminating any risk of corruption and, at the same time, being able to maintain the highest degree of performance along with supporting industry standards for reporting, said Duncan Bates, VP of Product Management for Birdstep, "We also saw the importance of being able to replicate to multiple servers to achieve fault-tolerance. RDM Server v8.0 delivered the transactional safety their customers require, kept performance at an optimal level, and allowed them to achieve piece-of-mind that their data would be kept replicated and in-sync should any system interrupt occur."

"If you look at where Birdstep is headed with our entire database portfolio, our roadmap is all about enabling our customers to manage data most efficiently, access data quickly, and protect the accuracy of that data", states Steinar Sande, CEO of Birdstep's Database Division. Steinar explains, "We are committed to providing our customers database solutions that offer unmatched flexibility and data reliability so they can deliver market leading products."
