Laguna Guitars launches "One Guitar, One Tree" reforestation program and Guitar Center revamps shipping policies in their commitment to earth-friendly sustainability.

Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) May 14, 2008 -- Two leading companies in the music industry, Laguna Guitars and Guitar Center , are demonstrating their dedication to reforestation and energy conservation through two "green" initiatives. Guitar manufacturer Laguna has launched the "One Guitar, One Tree" program and will plant one tree for every Laguna guitar made. The reforestation program is a collaboration with AmericanForests.org and their Global Relief campaign. Along with tree planting efforts, each guitar is shipped in a 100% recycled cardboard box that is also 100% recyclable.

Music instrument retailer Guitar Center has changed its operational procedures to reduce the company's carbon footprint and conserve fuel and wood resources. The company has stopped using wooden pallets when shipping products. This has eliminated the need for 211,812 wooden pallets yearly--the equivalent of more than 8,000,000 pounds of lumber. Because pallets are no longer used, Guitar Center trucks are packed more efficiently resulting in fewer truckloads. In 2007 the company conserved 383,950 gallons of diesel fuel and reduced outbound truckloads by more than 50% compared to 2006. Guitar Center has also eliminated shrink-wrap plastic and has saved 70 million square feet of plastic since 2007--an amount that could pave a four-foot wide pathway from New York to Los Angeles.
