White Plains, NY (PRWEB) May 15, 2008 -- Dr. Aaron A. Flagg, Executive Director of the Music Conservatory of Westchester, a non-profit community school of the arts, was named a winner of the "Rising Stars - Westchester's Forty Under Forty" by The Business Council of Westchester. He will be honored for his professional accomplishments, leadership qualities, and outstanding success at an awards ceremony June 19, 2008.

The Business Council of Westchester's program to honor business leaders throughout Westchester is modeled after the national business recognition program "Forty Under Forty." Forty awards are given to young men and women who exemplify professional or entrepreneurial skills and have demonstrated leadership, foresight, and a vision for the future of Westchester.

Dr. Flagg, 38, joined the Music Conservatory of Westchester as Executive Director in 2005. The Conservatory, offering programs in music, music therapy, and theatre, is comprised of 80 faculty members, 20 staff, and more than 3,500 students of all ages and abilities. Under Dr. Flagg's leadership, enrollment has increased by 8%. He significantly expanded the reach of the Conservatory's Music Therapy Institute, launched new programs in Vocal Performance and Hip Hop, completed a new three-year strategic plan, and oversaw the organization's first performance in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall with more than 180 students and three world premieres.

"It's an honor to be recognized by The Business Council of Westchester. My goal as Executive Director is to build upon the legacy of strong leadership that has come before me," says Dr. Flagg. "The Conservatory has been a premiere arts education institution in our area for 79 years. Its mission of enabling people to embrace the arts - regardless of age, aptitude, or professional path - is something that I believe in passionately and wholeheartedly."

A professional trumpet player and teaching artist, Dr. Flagg holds a doctorate from the University of Michigan and two degrees from The Juilliard School. He has written curricula, taught seminars, and conducted workshops across the country. Equally skilled as a performer, Dr. Flagg has performed concertos, recitals, as well as big band, orchestra, and chamber concerts with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Wynton Marsalis, New York Philharmonic, Manhattan Virtuosi, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, Illinois Jacquet Big Band, Manhattan Virtuosi, Tania Leon's Son Sonora Ensemble, among others.

Previously, Dr. Flagg was Director of Educational Outreach at The Juilliard School and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Connecticut. He serves as Chair of the New York Metro Area Region of the National Guild of Community Schools for the Arts and on the Board of Trustees for the Leagues of American Orchestras (formerly the American Symphony Orchestra League). Dr. Flagg currently resides in Bronx, NY with his wife, Dr. Cristina Stanescu, and their seven year old son.

The Conservatory's seventh annual Golf & Tennis Classic and Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner will be held at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY, May 19, 2008.
