Alfredo Bandalan, the first Filipino American to acquire the Doce Pare Grand Master title, and his life story were featured in the May 2008 issue of Filipina Magazine.
Morgan Hill, CA (PRWEB) June 29, 2008 -- Alfred Bandalan, an Eskrima instructor and Doce Pare Grand Master, recently had his eskrima career and his life profiled in the May 2008 issue of Filipina Magazine. According to the article, Eskrima is a Filipino fighting style that emphasizes stick and sword fighting involving "thrusts on both sides of the chest" and "slashes" to the knees, ribs, groin, shoulder, temples and crown. The article also says that Doce Pare, which was founded in 1930, is an organization that consists of 12 Eskrima teachers, and "Doce Pare" is the name given to the scrim that the organization teaches.
The article goes on to talk about Bandalan's life, how he came to train in and teach Eskrima and his accomplishments as a scrim and Doce Pare student and teacher. For example, according to the article, "In 1975, Professor Mauricio Tiwanek present him [Batalan] his Chief Instructor ranking and designated him head of the San Jose Chapter of CHA III (Central Hawaiian Activities III) Kenpo [another type of martial arts in which Bandalan specializes]." Eventually, Bandalan started the Bandalan Doce Pares Association.
According to the article, Felix Ordiniza, another eskrimador, and his friend and family opened dojo in Hollister, California that is dedicated to the Bandalan Doce Pares Association way of learning scrim and also dedicated to Alfred Bandalan, himself.
Bandalan officially received the title of Doce Pare Grand Master in 1981.
