San Jose, Calif. (Vocus/PRWeb) July 16, 2008 -- Over one hundred bands comprising over 1,000 musicians on 10 will come alive in downtown San Jose Aug. 8-10 at the 19th annual Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival presented by Southwest Airlines and more people than ever before are expected to arrive on alternative forms of transportation.

The festival's central location in downtown San Jose at Caesar Chavez Park makes it accessible by plane, train, car, bike and foot.

This year's festival is one of the most accessible and affordable events this summer
Headlining performers will include David Sanborn, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Summit and Zakir Hussain, the Bill Holman Orchestra, James Hunter, the Shotgun Wedding Hip Hop Symphony, and more.

"This year's festival is one of the most accessible and affordable events this summer," says Geoff Roach, Executive Director of San Jose Jazz. "There are sensible transportation options available for local, out-of-state and even out-of-the-country festival goers. And now, with the Guadalupe River trail complete, people from outlying neighborhoods can easily walk or bike to this festival."

For out-of-town travelers, the Mineta San Jose International Airport, only three miles from downtown offers over 160 daily commercial arrivals from both national and international locations. For an added convenience for overnight guests, the San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau has arranged an array of discount hotel accommodations at several nearby hotels, starting at $89 a night, so festival goers can enjoy a jazz weekend getaway.

For Bay Area residents, the jazz festival is accessible via four major freeways, with free weekend parking facilities in close proximity to the event. As the official public transportation partner of the festival, Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is encouraging attendees to leave the car at home and take bus or light rail to the event. With VTA, festival goers can leave the car in the garage and save on gas by taking light rail, trains run every 15 minutes on weekends, and bus lines to downtown San Jose.

Rail service from other Bay Area cities will be available via Caltrain and ACE Rail. Capitol Corridor in Sacramento will offer service to San Jose and connections to BART at Richmond and Oakland Coliseum. All trains arrive at the Diordon Station, which is a short walk from the Jazz Festival stages.

Tickets to the Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival are $10 per day or $25 for a three-day admission pass. Children ages 12 and under attend the festival for free. To plan your visit to the jazz festival now and to purchase tickets online, please visit http://festival2008.sanjosejazz.org/travel.html.
