The Buffalo State College Career Development Center has named Vector Marketing, the sales division of Cutco Cutlery Corporation, as its “2008 Student Employer of the Year.”

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Business Wire EON) July 9, 2008 -- The Buffalo State College Career Development Center has named Vector Marketing, the sales division of Cutco Cutlery Corporation, as its 2008 Student Employer of the Year.

It has also become evident that Vector meets the professional and ethical standards that are consistent with the programs here at Buffalo State. Our students are mentored well by the Vector managers and the experience has been a positive one.
The award is given annually to the employer who provides opportunities for Buffalo State students in a way that gives them income-earning positions while in school and prepares them for careers after graduation.

Founded in 1949 and based in Olean, NY, Cutco Cutlery sells products through its sales division, Vector marketing. Vector Marketing trains and coordinates the activities of Cutcos direct sales force, comprised predominantly of a national network of college students who sell the products through in-home personal demonstrations. All Vector Marketing sales representatives participate in a training program that teaches them a wide range of skills related to sales and entrepreneurialism. Vector marketing trains more than 40,000 students each year. Cutco is the largest kitchen cutlery manufacturer in North America.

The Vector training program teaches students a variety of skills, including:

  • Presenting themselves professionally
  • Demonstrating product value
  • Building customer base
  • How to work for commission
  • Organization/time management

We have had a long-standing relationship with the Buffalo office of Vector Marketing, said Lisa August, Associate Director of the Career Development Center. The students who have become Vector sales reps are taking away skills that serve them well in future careers.

It has also become evident that Vector meets the professional and ethical standards that are consistent with the programs here at Buffalo State. Our students are mentored well by the Vector managers and the experience has been a positive one.

The relationship with Buffalo State has been spearheaded by John Fiacco, Buffalo North District Manager for Vector.

John has done an outstanding job at Buffalo State in regard to establishing a strong relationship with the career center and the students, said Tim McCreadie, manager of Vectors Mid-West Region, which oversees the Buffalo office. Its an honor to be recognized by Buffalo State and we look forward to continuing this relationship.
